With so much of their young talent on display, the annual intersquad Spring scrimmage took place on Saturday afternoon, with the Gray squad jumping out to an early lead, and then sitting on said lead, to win 23-3.

With the Buckeyes basketball season ending in disappointment, just like the football season did, we must now look to the future, and in our Buckeye circle of life that means it’s once again time for large men in pads to smash into other large men in pads. Go Bucks.

For the third season in a row the Ohio State Buckeyes will lose a freshman center to the NBA. This time it’s B.J. Mullens, who declared himself for the coming draft just a few days after OSU’s loss in the first round in the NCAA tournament.

In a game that took the Ohio State Buckeyes (22-11) from late last Friday night all the way to early Saturday morning against the Siena Saints (27-8), the Buckeyes were outlasted in two overtimes to lose in the opening round of the NCAA tournament 74-72.

In the end the Ohio State Buckeyes (22-10) three headed monster of Jon Diebler, William Buford, and Evan Turner just wasn’t enough to push past the defense of the Purdue Boilermakers (25-9) Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis as the Boilermakers won the Big Ten tournament title 65-61.

#5 Ohio State Vs #3 Purdue 3:30pm

The Boilermakers and Buckeyes split the season series, with the Buckeyes taking the first game 80-72 in Columbus, and then the Boilermakers came back with a 75-50 beat down of the Buckeyes in West Lafayette.

This is the last game before the announcement of who is in and who is out in reference to the Big Dance. For these two teams, it’s not waiting to find out if they’re in, it’s waiting to find out what seed they get, which region they’re in, and who they’ll have to go through to get to the sweet sixteen. These teams are close to each other in the seeding questions, but it doesn’t appear that even if the Buckeyes win today in Indianapolis they will be able to leapfrog the Boilermakers for a higher seed. I’d say if the Buckeyes win, they’d end up with a #5 seed. If the Boilermakers win, they’ll be looking at as high as a #3.

The Ohio State Buckeyes (22-9) jumped quickly on the Michigan State Spartans (26-6) Saturday afternoon, taking a double-digit lead in the first half, then keeping the Spartans at bay for the rest of the afternoon, finishing with an 82-70 win.

Big Ten Tournament, Semi-Finals

#1 MichiganState Vs. #5 Ohio State 1:40pm

The Spartans beat the Buckeyes by 9 in East Lansing, and by 11 points in Columbus. It looks like the Spartans are only two victories away from not only a Big Ten Tournament title, but also possibly a #1 seed. The Buckeyes, also considered locks for the Big Dance will also be looking to improve their seeding.

This feels like one of those games that will come down to Jon Diebler hitting open 3-pointers while Evan Turner creates. If he does hit those shots, it will be a long day for the Spartans. On the other hand if Kalin Lucas goes for 20 points in a half again, the Buckeyes will get blown out of the water.

Ohio State 61 – Wisconsin 57

Thanks to some clutch shooting, and some rough and tumble defense the Ohio State Buckeyes (21-9) were able to outlast the Wisconsin Badgers (19-12) in Indianapolis 61-57 to advance to the Big Ten Tournament semi-finals.

This was the Buckeyes defense from the 7-0 start of the season. Even without David Lighty, the Buckeyes were able to hold the normally efficient Badger offense to 36% from the field, and hit only 7 of their 32 shots from beyond the arc. With the defense at it’s best, it took only a couple of 3 pointers from Jeremie Simmons and Jon Diebler, and another great Evan Turner performance to ensure victory. Turner was able to get past any and all of the Badgers defenders, racking up 19 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.

The Badgers were paced by 3 players, all who made it into double figures, and were led by Trevon Hughes’15 points. In truth the Badgers just couldn’t hit the long ball. With the Buckeyes defenders flying towards the shooting hands of the Badgers they got very few open looks.

This all leads to another matchup against the Michigan State Spartans, who roundly beat the Buckeyes in both of their games this season. If by chance they can sneak past the Spartans they could be looking more and more li

#1 Michigan State Vs. #8 Minnesota 12:00 pm

The Spartans beat the Gophers by 12 in Minneapolis and 29 in East Lansing this year.

More than the previous defeats, doesn’t it feel like this Minnesota team can go no further? What started out as a great season for Minnesota has officially dropped below tournament standards. For them to get in they need to beat the Spartans then one or two more teams. They don’t get past the Spartans.
