With so much of their young talent on display, the annual intersquad Spring scrimmage took place on Saturday afternoon, with the Gray squad jumping out to an early lead, and then sitting on said lead, to win 23-3.
In this kind of game, the actual story doesn’t matter. How the individuals fared is what the rabid Buck Nuts care about.
So, here you go:
Names You Know:
QB Terrelle Pryor
Pryor looked like the complete package, showing once again his light feet, as well as a strong and accurate arm. If he can consistently perform at this level against Big Ten competition there is no limit to the damage he will do.
13-18 attempts, 2 td’s
RB Brandon Saine
Saine ran the ball well. As the fastest of the running back candidates, he showed good development in between the tackles. Saine has always been a track star on the football field, now he’s starting to look good in those pads.
6 rushes, 55 yards
RB Daniel “Boom” Herron
The other part of the running back duo looked strong as well. I think we already know what Herron is, a steady, sturdy runner who gets to the line quickly, and doesn’t go down without a fight. He can’t hit the homerun like Saine, but he will be a nice backbone to the Buckeyes running attack.
10 rushes, 44 yards
WR Ray Small
Expected to be one of Pryor’s main targets, Small looks to finally be ready to consistently contribute. He will most likely be teamed with speedster DeVier Posey as the Buckeyes main threats down the field.
4 receptions, 74 yards, td
DE Cameron Heyward
The Buckeyes main threat on the defensive line looked one more like the special player that he is. Expect him to look like Vernon Gholston 2.0 next year.
6 tackles, 3 solo, 1 sack
Surprising Contributors:
RB Marcus Williams
The junior hit a homerun with a 75-yard scamper. He isn’t expected to challenge Saine or Herron for time, but that was a heck of a run.
WR Taurian Washington
The sophomore caught 4 balls for 93 yards. At 6-2, I’m guessing we hear his name quite often next year.
LB Brian Rolle
Another sophomore, Rolle showed good pursuit of the ball, leading both teams with 11 tackles, including a sack.
