Minnesota At Ohio State
Minnesota is 4-0, including a manhandling of Florida Atlantic last week (37-3), which featured four interceptions. Thus far the Gophers defense is fourth in the nation in turnover margin (+2.75).
Redshirt sophomore QB Adam Webber has been impressive. He’s third in the Big Ten in passing efficiency, with seven touchdown passes to only one interception. Last year he managed to break a ton of Minnesota passing records, he’s breaking and re-breaking them again this year. He also has one heck of a target in Junior WR Eric Decker, who is fourth in nation in receiving yards (113.5).
Minnesota has already quadrupled their win total from last year (1). Look for them to make an above-average bowl game this year, and finish .500 in the Big Ten.
What you need to know about the Buckeyes playing Minnesota:
- RB Chris “Beanie” Wells is back. If he is back, and his normal self, look for him to immediately thrust himself back into Heisman talk with a BIG game.
- QB Terrelle Pryor officially has the nation’s eyes on him. Look for Beanie’s return to take away Minnesota keying off on him.
- Look for the Buckeyes to attack Minnesota QB Adam Webber. With no standout running back, the Buckeyes will look to lower Webber’s passing rating with lots of pressure.
Why the Buckeyes need to take this game seriously:
- Opening game of Big Ten conference play.
- Minnesota has real weapons on offense, and ball-hawks on defense. If they can get to Pryor, the Buckeyes will have to rely heavily on the still not 100% “Beanie” Wells.
- The Buckeyes still have to keep winning to prove themselves on the national front.
- BIG. TEN. GAME.
Prediction:
Look for the Buckeyes to show their whole hand this week. Minnesota is too good, and this is too far into this season to hold anything back in terms of play calling. Look for Minnesota to worry Buckeyes fans early, before the Buckeyes superior talent on the offensive and defensive line takes over.
